Dickson Mounds Museum will be hosting a traditional Native American Winter Gathering on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Third Annual Winter Gathering will celebrate, honor, and remember the gifts of our ancestors. The event will feature a variety of activities and demonstrations, including music, group games and dances, and crafts. Morning activities begin at 11:00 a.m. with lunch available at the Museum between noon and 2:00 p.m. Native American vendors will be open throughout the event. Guest speakers, including Museum Director Dr. Michael Wiant, drum music, dancing, and flute music by Paul Adams highlight the day’s activities. Participants will journey to Dorothy’s Grove to honor and remember ancestors and view a special pipe ceremony in the afternoon.
The event is open to the public and admission is free. There will be activities for all ages.
The Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day.
