Emiquon: A Place in Nature, A Place in Time

Posted here is a two part article originally published in the Illinois State Museum's publication The Living Museum, Volume 59 #4, 1997-98 and Volume 60 #1, 1998.  These articles written by Duane Esarey, formerly of Dickson Mounds Museum, review the environmental history of the area encompassed by the proposed Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge and describes passages from journals written over 300 years ago about this palce, and explains the origin of the place name Emiquon.
